Gap years ARE worthwhile
Added to website: 31 October 2006
Here at CCC, we believe that gap years provide volunteers with lifetime experiences and great employment opportunities – you actually get more than what you pay for despite what critics say.
CCC is an organisation that is really doing something positive for this world of ours - and you can help by taking an active role in our work. Make a positive contribution.
A valuable experience
Each year, hundreds of international volunteers join CCC expeditions to help alleviate poverty by providing countries with the information they desperately need to protect and sustainably use their tropical forests and coral reefs.
Joining a CCC expedition can allow you to develop your tropical ecology knowledge and team-building skills, give you greater independence, lifelong friendships, and overall improved career prospects.
Money well spent
Approximately 60% of your fee goes to running the in-country volunteer programme and the costs of our projects reflect the costs of running such projects in a respective country. What we do is by its very nature expensive- our operational costs require us to utilse a range of expensive equipment and facilitate the provision of complex operational and safety considerations. CCC prides itself on being very transparent about where your fee goes. Click here for more information
The expedition fee includes UK briefing sessions, field accommodation, food, BCD’s and Regulator hire (dive trainees), tanks, air, weight belts, expedition & research training and field staff supervision.
Employment opportunities
A gap year is a great way to develop your CV and gain positive career prosepcts, differentiating yourself from other candidates at interviews. With more and more people attending university and achieving fantastic results, why not stand out from the crowd and join a CCC expedition.
Safety comes first
All CCC expedition sites maintain extremely high standards of safety. Our expedition staff are all highly trained to deal with potential health and safety issues. The Expedition Leader has overall responsibility for the safety and management of expedition members. The Scuba Instructor is professionally qualified to instruct and qualify all dive trainees. The Medical Officer is a qualified medical doctor, nurse or paramedic with access to comprehensive expedition medical equipment on site.
In the event of an emergency, off-site medical treatment can be arranged through implementation of special evacuation procedures present at each expedition site. CCC staff at the London head office have 24hr contact with expedition bases, enabling them to liase directly with the Expedition Leader to ensure maximum safety and security at all times.
