Added to website: 02 August 2007
Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) is pleased to announce its compliance with BS 8848: A specification for adventurous activities, expeditions, visits and fieldwork outside the UK.
Following the recent launch of the groundbreaking publication from BSI British Standards, CCC is one of the first organisations to be self assessed and certified in compliance to the requirements.
The new BSI standard has been developed for adventurous activities abroad with the aim of reducing the risk of injury or illness. It will apply to adventurous activities, establishing ‘best practice’ for anyone involved with the organisation of expeditions, visits and fieldwork outside the UK.
Coral Cay Conservation has always aimed to be at the forefront of safety legislation in the expedition world and constantly strives to meet and surpass legal requirements. As a founder member of the Year Out Group and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office ‘Know Before You Go Campaign’ CCC has always sought to champion choice and safety on organised overseas activities.
Pete Raines, CCC’s CEO and Founder commented: “CCC has always been committed to best practice in our industry. Achieving this British Standard represents a bench-mark which will offer additional quality and safety assurance to all who wish to participate on a CCC expedition.”
Currently external assessment of the standard is not possible but as soon as auditors are available CCC will seek external assessment for the standard.
Frank Post, Marketing Director at BSI British Standards, said, “BS 8848 captures the very best thinking on good practice in managing overseas ventures and provides invaluable guidance for trip organisers and much needed reassurance to participants.”
CCC is delighted to be part of the BS8848 standard and will champion its cause as the benchmark standard for the expedition industry to aspire to.
