Added to website: 10 May 2007
CCC’s Marine Science Co-ordinator, Dr Simon Harding, attended the Third General Meeting of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) under the secretariat co-hosted by Japan and Palau in conjunction with the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre. The meeting was held in Tokyo, Japan between the 22nd and 24th of April 2007.
One of the main topics discussed are plans for the forthcoming International Year of the Reef (IYOR) in 2008. There were interesting sessions discussing ocean acidification and the potential effects on coral reefs, and mangrove-coral reef connectivity. A representative of the International Tropical Timber Organisation also attended, and discussed with ICRI members the potential for collaboration between mangrove and coral related conservation efforts.

The secretariat was handed over to the new co-hosts of the United States and Mexico, who are now preparing the next meeting early in 2008.
