1. SUMMARY
Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) is seeking an events cooordinator who will assist with the co-ordination & organisation of events and activities in the UK promoting coral reef conservation and awareness as part of the International Year of the Reef (IYOR) in 2008. An exciting opportunity to have direct and influential involvement in the project and get hands on experience in the field of conservation and events management. This is an ideal post for someone able to offer 2/3 days a week for a minimum of 3 months to work within a small company at the cutting edge of effective community-based coral reef conservation.
Ideally, volunteers will be able to base themselves at the CCC offices in London (Waterloo) but working from home is an option.
Whilst there is no financial remuneration, this does give a valuable opporthunity to have direct deadlings with influential professionals in the field of conservation and be involved at a key level. All reasonable travel & other expenses will be met.

3. CCC HISTORY
Founded in 1986, Coral Cay Conservation Ltd (CCC) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based international organization dedicated to the conservation of tropical forests and coral reefs. CCC currently has projects running in the Philippines, Tobago and Papua New Guinea. Additional projects in other countries are currently under development.
CCC is primarily funded through its fee-paying international volunteer scheme, with additional funding sources from corporate and private donors and various grant-aid sources. For further information about CCC, please refer to www.coralcay.org.
4. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
- Able to commit regular time to assist CCC Head Office with the organisation of IYOR 2008 events and activities in the UK
- Previous events experience highly desirable, organisational & communication skills essential
- Build and maintain database of partners, press & useful contacts
- Proficient writing and computer skills for research and document creation
- Organised, proactive, personable and self motivated
- Understanding of tropical coastal and development issues is an advantage but not essential
5. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The IYOR Events Coordinator will work under the guidance of the IYOR Project Manager and be answerable to PR & Communications Manager and the Head of Marine Science to help organise events and activites to promote coral reef conservation and awareness as part of the International Year of the Reef in 2008.
Tasks will include planning and organising fundraising events, writing articles for the press, liaising with IYOR partners directly and making presentations to schools and other interested groups where needed.
