CCC Photographer of the Year Competition

The Brief:
A unique opportunity to showcase your talent on a national and international level and the chance to win a free three-week expedition to the location of your choice.
Why Enter:
- Help raise awareness to the plight of the world’s coral reefs and tropical forests and the important conservation work CCC is doing in Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean.
- Help inspire potential volunteers to join CCC expeditions through your photography.
- A rare opportunity to showcase your work:
- Finalists will have their work displayed at the ‘CCC Photographer of the Year Exhibition’ (details will be added to the website shortly).
- Prizes and Awards:
- Finalist images will be displayed on the CCC website. Credit will be given.
- Runners up for each category (terrestrial and marine) will receive runner up prizes.
- The winner will win a free three-week expedition (the prize includes full board and lodging at a CCC expedition base, full training, use of expedition equipment and free PADI scuba training if required).
Selection Criteria:
- Relevance to the theme.
- Significance of the image to CCC aims and objectives.
- Aesthetic appeal of the photograph.
- Originality.
- Composition.
- Technique.

Judging:
Five images will be shortlisted from each main category (Terrestrial and Marine). From these 10 images, a CCC panel of judges will decide upon an overall winner at the ‘CCC Photographer of the Year Exhibition’ in 2005.
The following individuals will be on the CCC panel of judges:

- Craig Turner, Director of Terrestrial Sciences

How to enter?
- All entrants must return the completed entry form.
- There are two main categories in which to enter images: Terrestrial and Marine. Within these categories there will be 5 subcategories:
- Training- e.g. surveying, lectures, dive training.
- Community- e.g. local people, festivals, local workshop.
- Camp life- e.g. cooking, relaxing.
- Landscapes
- Wildlife
- A minimum of 3 and maximum of 10 images (of both main categories) can be submitted per candidate.
- Each image must be accompanied by a brief description. This description should include when, where, and why the image was taken, and in which category the image is to be entered.
- Entries can be supplied in digital, print and/or slide format.
- All prints must be accompanied by their negatives.
- Digital images can be supplied on disc or emailed as an eps, jpeg or tiff file. No other formats will be accepted.
- The minimum resolution accepted for digital images is 300 dpi.
- The following formats are not acceptable:
- Images larger than A4 (300mm x210mm).
- Images that have been manipulated digitally.
- Images taken in APS format.
- Slide and prints should be labelled with the photographer’s name.
- Photographers wishing to have their entries returned should supply a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Who can enter?
- CCC Volunteers (past and present).
- Existing and former voluntary field staff.
Timing:
- The closing date for entries is 30 December 2004.
- The finalists of the CCC Photographer of the Year Competition will be notified in January 2005. If you have not been contacted by the end of this month, you may assume that your entry has been unsuccessful.
- Entries will be returned as soon as possible after judging and only if a stamped, SAE is provided.
- The final judging will take place at the CCC gallery exhibition in March 2005 where the winner will be announced.
Rules & Restrictions:
- All entrants must hold copyrights to the material submitted.
- By submitting an image you grant to CCC a royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to publish and otherwise use the material to promote the work of CCC. It is important to note, however, that you still own the copyright to the images you submit.
- Copies of the shortlisted photographs may be sold at the CCC Exhibition with profits being donated to the CCC Trust. No payment will be made to the photographers.
- No responsibility can be taken for loss or damage of entries while in transit or at the CCC office, and proof of postage is not proof of receipt.
- The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Paid employees of CCC are not eligible to enter.
- No alternative, cash or otherwise, will be given for any prizes.
