Local Scholar- Project Bay Islands, Honduras
Added to website: 10 October 2004
The CCC scholarship programme has changed the lives of many Honduran volunteers. Some of them for example, now work for the Honduran Goverment in reef preservation, ecotourism and fish farms (like me) and this is thanks to the marine knowledge and dive abilities, taught by CCC. In my case, I’m working on the mainland at the moment but when somebody needs a diver for the supervision, management or recreational purposes in fish farms, I’m able to respond. In addition, when important decisions related to reefs, diving and marine life need to be made, my opinion is now asked.
I have to say, something very important that i learnt on expedition is how to make desicions, work in teams, think, act and follow orders (is pretty hard sometimes when you are in you own country but that happens because it is a very good experience).
You wanted to know if i can recommend the CCC scholarships programs?… OF COURSE. I really want everybody in my career to visit Roatán to dive, learn about marine life and have fun with people of others countries. The experience is like an intercultural exchange. I now have very good friends from England, Scotland, Holland, France, Canada, Austria and that’s all CCC’s fault! Thanks to CCC some of these people will return next Easter to visit me and have fun visiting the mainland, diving, hiking, horse riding, watching birds and meeting cows, sheeps, fishes and others!! All very important for my country.
I’m thankful to CCC and its volunteers, but specially Dr. Myton for opening the door for honduran students. The experience has changed my life for ever…
