Exploring Life On A Different Level - Canopy Season At Eden
Added to website: 06 June 2004
The Eden Project, Bodelva, Cornwall, PL24 2SG, UK
13th September to 31st October 2004
In collaboration with the Global Canopy Programme and Pro-Natura International working with The International Canopy Network (ICAN) and other groups, ‘Exploring Life on a Different Level’ at Eden will give the canopy scientific community an opportunity to connect their exciting world directly with the public and colleagues. This will be achieved through the display of the latest canopy research access methods, including a Tower Crane, IKOS, Canopy Bubble, Canopy Raft, Flybot, and Canopy Glider. ‘Exploring Life on a Different Level’ will include a rolling programme of events, stories from canopy scientists, debates and interactive projects to engage visitors to the Eden Project, and raise awareness about the science and biodiversity of forest canopies both locally, nationally and internationally.
An exciting seven-week programme is taking shape, with the first two weeks focusing on Canopy Scientists, followed by three weeks on education with school groups and the remaining two weeks with visitors. ‘Exploring Life on a Different Level’ is an on-site public education event, so everyone will have full access to all workshops, theatrical and aerial performances, talks, debates, and creative activities.
You are cordially invited to attend or participate in any part of ‘Exploring Life on a Different Level’:
Monday 13th September to Sunday 31st October - workshops and talks from canopy scientists and related fields
Thursday 16th, Friday 17th, and Saturday 18th September (with an invitation-only VIP Gala Dinner on the Friday) is a unique opportunity for the canopy community to be together and exchange information and ideas - this will be the first ‘Big Canopy Conversation’ of the ‘Exploring Life on a Different Level’ event, staged at the world class Eden Project
Please submit your interest, stating if you would wish to give a talk, workshop or simply attend, to Don Murray, Tropics Curator, The Eden Project, Bodelva, Cornwall, PL24 2SG, UK. dmurray@edenproject.com
The objectives of ‘Exploring Life on a Different Level’ are:
- To excite, engage and raise awareness about the importance of canopy science and biodiversity locally, nationally and globally
- To initiate and engage our visitors (1.4 million annually), including young people and families, in debate and discussion about canopy biodiversity; the importance of scientific research in this area, the scientific adventure in exploring this unknown frontier, about canopy science, methods and technologies, on their own doorstep
- To illustrate canopy science methods, technological innovations and the research and findings. To show everyone that science is fun, an adventure and an exploration.
The Eden Project Mission: To promote the understanding and responsible management of the vital relationship between plants, people and resources leading to a sustainable future for all.
The Eden Project.
