The Southern Mamanucas
Added to website: 11 January 2006
CCC’s survey work in the Southern Mamanucas is soon to come to a completion. To maximize the benefit to Fiji as a Nation, we have been requested to move to a new location by the Ministry of Tourism. This will not affect the on-going work that we are doing in the Northern
Mamanuca Islands (from the base at Tokoriki) however it will result in the closure of Ravinaki as our main base of operations.
We are currently exploring potential locations with the Ministry of Tourism, local community groups and other tourist operators. CCC’s Head of Marine Science James Comley, will shortly be visiting the
islands to oversee the site selection and subsequent move. It is anticipated that the move will complete sometime in February though the exact date is dependent on the success of the scoping missions. During the move, there will be some disruption to the normal expedition experience though rest assured, we will endeavor to keep this to a minimum. Expedition relocations are really exciting
undertakings and very rewarding to be involved in.
