Communicate 2005
Added to website: 05 September 2005
Bristol Natural History Consortium - improving the way we communicate about the natural world through innovative public events, professional development and international dialogue.
Following the success of last year’s conference and in response to growing public concerns about environmental and conservation issues, Communicate will be held annually. This year’s symposium aims to spend more time in discussion and learning from each other. The theme is to better understand our audiences and the resources and tools available for reaching them.
Participants will hear from key communicators both from our sector and from outside the world of conservation communication and begin to understand the international context of communicating conservation issues. Delegates will also be at the forefront of shaping and influencing major events and initiatives for 2006.
The symposium will also reveal the results of recent research undertaken by DEFRA and Communicate that identifies skill and resource gaps within the sector and supports a more joined-up approach to finding the most effective means of sharing information, experience and resources. The results from this symposium will help us to share forward strategies and prevent duplication.

DISCUSSION GROUPS:
The Symposium will support a series of discussion groups based on identifying the most effective tools, best practice and effective evaluation for engaging with specific audiences including young people, policy makers, ethnic minority groups, corporate audiences, warm audiences and the voluntary sector. The outcomes from these discussion groups will be presented in an electronic format and having been peer reviewed will form an on-line communications toolkit. Delegates must select to attend one discussion group during Communicate 2005 which must be selected at the time of booking.
