Dez Maule's Patronage
Added to website: 07 September 2006
Derek (Dez) Maule is a chartered physicist who spent the early part of his working life in the research and development of silicon chip technology, and the past 27 years as managing director of manufacturing companies in the UK.
His involvement with Coral Cay Conservation came 7 years ago through a lawyer friend who had participated in marine expeditions in Belize and the Philippines and asked Dez to use his experience to assist the directors of Coral Cay Conservation to resolve a management problem. With the problem resolved, Dez was invited to become the non-executive Chairman of Coral Cay Conservation; a post he relished and enjoyed for the next 6 years.
Dez was widely travelled on business and his experience in dealing with top management and government departments around the world was put to good use on several occasions for Coral Cay Conservation. Dez always rates one of the highlights of his chairmanship when he represented Coral Cay Conservation in Fiji during the opening of a short-term marine surveillance project based at the Safe Landing resort on the Fijian island of Nacula in the Yasawas. The opening ceremony was performed by the Fijian Prime Minister, the Hon Laisenia Qarase who committed his government to the support of Coral Cay Conservation and its work in helping to alleviate poverty through the preservation and management of coral reefs in Fiji.

Dez retired as Chairman in 2005 to pursue his plan to emigrate with his wife Cathy to Australia where two of their three children have lived and worked for several years.
