With ever increasing pressure on tropical habitats, CCC is always looking for ways to do more. Inevitably resources are an issue. Despite the need to chase funds, given the heavy fieldwork and management commitments of staff it’s not always easy to respond to opportunities as they arise. To help solve this problem, CCC has invited Dr Simon Draper to join CCC as Development and Fundraising Officer.
Simon joins CCC from his current post as Deputy CEO of a science-based organisation in Cambridge. With expertise in marketing and business development, he also has a board-level background in bioscience and experience of knowledge transfer to improve rural livelihoods. This professional experience is complemented by a strong interest in maritime activities as a keen small boat navigator and diver.
Explaining how much he is looking forward to taking up his post, he said, “Since becoming involved, I have found that without exception people I talk to about CCC’s work always enthuse about what is being achieved. What we have to do is translate such public appreciation into positive support. In particular, for responsible companies with a concern for the environment and our planet’s future, CCC can provide a way of channelling resources to produce tangible benefits. I feel really privileged to be joining an organisation with such a tremendous sense of purpose and look forward to the challenge ahead.”
