From World Water Day to World Ocean Day
Added to website: 22 March 2005
Today, March 22, is World Water Day so it’s appropriate that The Ocean
Project send out a reminder to our partners around the globe that June
8th is World Ocean Day. It is coming up soon and this year we are
planning to have an even greater number of participants on all
continents!
The Ocean Project has recently hired Denise Washko who will be
coordinating World Ocean Day events and activities with our partners.
Please contact Denise at any time at: dwashko@theoceanproject.org. She
would be happy to help you figure out the best way to have your
organization represented, provide you with resources, contacts and/or
ideas.
World Ocean Day is a day (or a weekend or week near to June 8) when
organizations and individuals from around the world come together to
celebrate our world ocean, reflect on the ocean’s importance in our
lives, and take time to do something good for our blue planet. Last
year hundreds of aquariums, zoos, museums and conservation
organizations worldwide participated in World Ocean Day activities
bringing their inspirational messages to hundreds of thousands of
visitors and members. For a sampling of what happened last year see:
http://www.theoceanproject.org/images/doc/WOD_Partner_Events_2004.pdf.
This year The Ocean Project is again working with the World Ocean
Network to coordinate World Ocean Day events.
We have developed (and continue to develop) a suite of ways World Ocean
Day can be celebrated at our partner institutions. Suggested
resources, tools, events and activities to spread the word, take
action, and get the community involved are listed at:
www.worldoceanday.org. We will be developing much more (and please
check the website again as it will be changing soon) and look forward
to hearing from you.
****If you have ideas to spread through our global network, would like
to share what you have planned so we can post it on our website, if you
have questions, or would like to connect with a “sister partner” on the
other side of our blue planet for this event, etc..please let us know!
