Mission Beach to get its own Reef show
Added to website: 12 June 2007
Local C4 member and CCC Chairman, Pete Faulkner will be launching a Reef presentation at the Mission Beach Progress Hall, Queensland, Australia on Friday June 29th at 6:00pm.
Called Mission:awareness, the multi-media presentation will be running every Friday for the foreseeable future. Pete has plans to expand the timetable to twice a week if demand permits.
The 90 minute presentation aims to entertain and educate using beautiful underwater images that Pete has taken on the Great Barrier Reef. “I hope that people will gain a much better understanding of the coral reef ecosystem, some of the amazing creatures that call it home and leave the show with a real desire to help to conserve this wonderful resource.”, says Pete.
Pete has been involved with the conservation of coral reefs around the world for over 15 years. He settled in Mission Beach last year and can usually be found teaching diving on Calypso II. When not diving Pete is Chairman of the British based conservation organisation Coral Cay Conservation and has more recently become involved with Reef Check here in Australia.
Pete hopes that Mission:awareness will appeal to both visitors and locals alike. In due course he hopes to develop a sister presentation specifically produced for the local schools.
Tickets for the show are $10 (Adults) and $7 (Under 15). They will be available from various outlets in the area as well as at the door on the night.
You can also purchase t-shirts from www.cafepress.com/missionaware where 10% of all profits on sales of shirts will be donated to coral conservation charities.
