PROJECT AWARE TSUNAMI RELIEF

In response to the recent Tsunami disaster across South East Asia, Project AWARE has set up a specific Tsunami Relief Fund to assist with the relief efforts. PADI has provided an initial commitment of $70,000 to aid in the fundraising effort. Every dollar raised through this special relief fund will be directed to environmental cleanup and restoration efforts in the areas affected by the tsunami. The main principle of this separate Project AWARE grant programme is to protect and rehabilitate the natural environment in areas affected by the Tsunami.
To this end, Project AWARE encourages applications from dive centres, organisations, community groups, Universities etc seeking grants to help with clean up efforts. This would include, but is not limited to, removal of debris and ghost nets, coral reef and mangrove development and rehabilitation, reef monitoring, elimination of sources of ocean pollution, research in Tsunami stricken regions or correct sanitation and waste disposal methods.
Project AWARE has created a special Tsunami Relief Fund application form and is welcoming applications, which have an impact in both the short, medium and long term. Project AWARE will also be working closely with other organisations to ensure that information about the impact of the Tsunami is shared.

Your donation will go to areas affected by the Tsunami to help preserve, rehabilitate and protect their natural environment.
Project AWARE’s regular Grant Programme will still be in operation to assist dive centres and organisations in their efforts to conserve the aquatic environment worldwide. Through its grant programme Project AWARE has already contributed over $2 million to worthwhile causes.
