The RGS-IBG Expedition Advisory Centre has an exciting line-up of spring workshops and courses planned to help kick-start expeditions and fieldwork projects for 2006.
Field Techniques: WORKING with LOCAL PEOPLE – Wednesday 22 February 2006
Examines the many issues surrounding people-orientated research projects overseas and gives practical guidance on project design and implementation. Cost: Student rate £35.25 (£30+VAT), Standard rate £55 (£46.81+VAT). Price includes lunch, refreshments and course notes.
GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SCIENCES for EXPEDITIONS and FIELDWORK – Friday-Sunday 10 – 12 March 2006
Designed for people planning to use tools and techniques such as GPS, remote sensing, digital mapping and data analyses as part of a field research project or expedition. Cost: Student rate £100 (incl VAT), Standard rate £175 (incl VAT). Price includes lunch, refreshments and course notes.
WILDERNESS MEDICAL TRAINING – Saturday 11 - Sunday 12 March 2006
For those who are working far from help, this course starts where conventional first aid training stops.
Cost: Standard rate £235 (£200+VAT); Student rate £188 (incl VAT). Price includes lunch, refreshments and course notes.
LAND ROVER DRIVER TRAINING – Monday 20 – Tuesday 21 March 2006 at Eastnor Castle, Hereford
A two-day practical driver training course covering key driving and safety techniques for people planning expeditions, research or fieldwork in remote areas.Cost: £150 incl. VAT for two days. Accommodation not provided.
WILDLIFE SOUND RECORDING – Friday 12 May 2006
Designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge to select and use equipment correctly for capturing the sounds of wildlife and other natural sounds. Cost: Student rate £35.25 (£30+VAT), Standard rate £55 (£46.81+VAT). Price includes lunch, refreshments and course notes.
CERTIFICATE IN OFF-SITE SAFETY MANAGEMENT – Thursday 25 – Friday 26 May 2006
For anyone managing educational visits or fieldwork in the UK, Europe or beyond, this course will help benchmark your safety management systems, and enable you to attain a professional qualification if you wish to go on to take an optional 3-hour examination at a later date. Cost: £211.50 (£180 + VAT) includes examination fees, course notes and lunch. Non-residential course.
