Added to website: 31 May 2006
World renowned cultural photographer Paul Harris is this month to visit The Fiji Coral Reef Conservation and the Southern Leyte Coral Reef Conservation Project (Philippines).
Paul is a freelance photographer who specializes in cultural documentary from around the world. Originally trained in film processing & exhibition printing, he has increasingly combined his interest in adventure travel and world cultures with photography. In 1989 he returned to college for two years to study documentary photography and has since produced work for editorial, corporate and charitable clients. In 1990, he accompanied the writer and explorer, Tim Severin to retrace ancient courier routes across the Steppes of Mongolia. Subsequent journeys to Russia’s Far East, Vietnam, Chile, The Malay Archipelago, Iran and India’s North East Frontier amongst others, have continued to inspire his work. His portraits of British Explorers are part of the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery and Royal Geographical Society who, in 1995 awarded him the ‘Cherry Kearton’ medal for photography of “peoples and the natural world”. Paul currently writes a regular column for Outdoor Photography magazine.
During his visits Paul will document CCC’s marine conservation efforts through images of Volunteers in skills development training and on survey. The images collected will contribute to the development of CCC’s Image Gallery: www.coralcay.org/photogalleries.php
