Malaysia Tropical Forests Conservation Project Success
Added to website: 01 October 2005
CCC will be concluding its survey of the biodiversity of the Setiu Wetland complex, peninsular Malaysia in March 2006. At this point, CCC will have achieved it’s stated aims of completing in-depth baseline biodiversity reasearch on the health and ecological status of the forests, wetlands and associated habitat types of the Setiu wetland area.
The work was initiated in October 2005, following the successful completion of survey work on Pulau Perhentian. The work at Setiu has been undertaken in collaboration with Perhilitan (Department of Wildlife and National Parks) and supported by other stakeholder groups. It is anticipated that the outputs of the work will assist in the delivery of biodiversity action plan of Malaysia by collecting and researching within the defined different habitat types of the Setiu wetlands area. The project has also successfully instigated a programme of training and conservation education at both the local scale and at the national level within Malaysia.
