SOUTHERN LEYTE CORAL CAY CONSERVATION PROJECT - APRIL 2008
Added to website: 01 May 2008
It’s been a typically busy month here at Coral Cay:
· Almost a month has passed since CCC moved to its new base in barangay Napantao, San Francisco, Panaon Island. We have now settled in and have been extremely busy surveying the reefs and out meeting the local community. The relocation passed without incident and enormous thanks must go out to the volunteers and staff, past and present as well as all our Filipino friends who worked tirelessly to make it happen.
· On April 9th – 10th, CCC returned to Limasawa for the second instalment of the PCRA and CFRM workshop. Habitat destruction, fisheries, and waste management issues were discussed with the various stakeholders as was a proposal for the creation of an MPA.
· Tuesday 22nd was Earth Day and Coral Cay presented to a number of students and barangay members on waste management and coral reefs.
· Barangay Napantao community members visited CCC’s base on Sunday 27th for an Open Day. It was a chance to get to know everyone and tell them about what we do. A great day was had by all!
