SOUTHERN LEYTE CORAL REEF CONSERVATION PROJECT -SEPTEMBER 2007
Added to website: 02 October 2007
CCC divers have reported some exciting sightings over the past few weeks. Pilot whales and dolphins have been seen out in Sogod Bay. It is always a pleasure to see these charismatic, marine mammals swimming alongside the boat. Turtles seem to be a usual sighting now, especially off Ampo and around Buenavista, with some lucky divers spotting four of these endangered marine creatures on the same dive.
We also had a run in with an angry Titan Trigger fish off Tangkaan point! Trigger fish, in particular the Titan (Balistoides viridescens), are known to aggressively defend their nests, even against divers who may unknowingly stray into their territory. Triggerfish have a very distinctive diamond shaped bodies and relatively small but powerful jaws that can crush bivalves and molluscs with ease, so watch out, they bite!
