Story of the Month
Tobago received an unexpected but very welcome visitor this month in the form of a nesting leatherback turtle! The nesting season for leatherbacks is between April and September, so volunteers and staff alike where very lucky to experience and help out on turtle patrol with ‘Save our Sea Turtles’ with this out of season nesting turtle. The Leatherback, named Lulu, came up and nested successfully every ten days for 4 weeks on the 8th, 18th, 28th November and 8th December. Success rate of hatchlings making it to adulthood is only 1 in 1000 so we hope Lulu’s eggs hatch successfully in 2 months time, we’ll keep you posted!
Quote of the Month!
“I’ve had an adventure of a lifetime with Coral Cay, for me this has been the equivalent of Forest Gump opening a box of chocolates!” The one and only Owen Washington, Trinidad & Tobago Reef Conservation Scholar.
What the Volunteers Say…
“Thank you for all the memories and helping a local in his dream of saving the reefs.” Chris Carter, a past Reef Conservation scholar from Trinidad, who came back to visit us this month.
“Make the most of every moment here, my 6 weeks have absolutely flown by! I’ve learnt so much, not just about diving and science but about myself.” Gaby Disandola, british volunteer, has some advice for you!
