Small Grants Scheme and CCC Philippines
Added to website: 21 December 2005
Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) is pleased to announce that the Southern Leyte Coral Reef Conservation Project (Philippines) has been awarded funding by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) under the Small Grants Scheme (SGS). The overall aim of this British development assistance is the elimination of poverty in poor countries through the promotion of sustainable development. Strategic objectives are 1) Policies and actions which promote sustainable livelihoods; 2) Better education, health and opportunities for poor people; and 3) Protection and better management of the natural and physical environment.
The funding has been awarded to CCC to increase conservation awareness and technical capacity to establish and monitor community-managed marine protected areas for sustainable ecotourism development in Southern Leyte.
The funding will allow CCC to; train 4 community Marine Park Wardens; award 6 Marine Resource Training Scholarships; train 4 teachers in conservation education; provide 100 local school children with a coral reef awareness field trip; produce 50 educational posters and handbooks including teacher training manuals.
Overarching project monitoring and evaluations will be conducted through the usual FCO processes, through established CCC/PRRCFI mechanisms and through the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte. Targeted project activities will be monitored and evaluated through the results of participatory feed-back questionnaires and the numbers of personnel successfully enrolled onto (and completing) the various project educational and training components. Additionally, CCC has already commissioned (pro bono) a qualified UK ‘Schools Inspector’ to conduct an evaluation of the curriculum content effectiveness.
