Tubbataha Atoll – A World Heritage Destination
Coral Cay Conservation and the Philippine Reef & Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc (PRRCFI) are delighted to announce unique opportunities exclusive to members of the CCC Society to join a 9-day liveaboard research cruises on board the DSV Discovery to survey and dive Tubbataha Atoll, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tubbataha Atoll: At the heart of the famed ‘Coral Triangle’, the 7100 islands of the Philippines can boast the highest marine biodiversity to be found anywhere on the planet; the reefs to be found here have long been a well kept secret amongst divers ‘in the know’. One of only nine marine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Tubbataha is also the only atoll in the Philippines. It was the Philippines’ first marine park, and this protection has probably contributed to the fact that the park yields the highest biomass of fish of anywhere within this remarkable country. With 441 species of fish, 396 species of corals, 71 species of algae, 44 species of birds, 6 species of marine mammals and 2 species of nesting turtles, diving here is an unparalleled experience and a source of constant surprise for those who know it well.
