The Polillo Islands Biodiversity Conservation Foundation (PIBCFI) has released its annual report for 2006.
Established by Flora and Fauna International with support from Chester Zoo and the Darwin Initiative, the foundation has been set up to help manage and secure the rich and unique natural treasure that the archipelago harbours.
Marine scientists from Coral Cay Conservation were involved in the project when they conducted a 2-week assessment of the coral reefs around the islands in September 2006. The reefs proved to be highly diverse but under severe threat from illegal and unsustainable fishing practices.
