British Ecological Society (BES) Annual Meeting
Added to website: 05 January 2003
In December 2002, Craig Turner (Coral Cay Conservation Terrestrial Science Co-ordinator) attended the British Ecological Society (BES) Annual Meeting at the University of York. The conference showcases recent ecological research and was attended by over 1000 delegates from British and overseas universities working in all areas of ecology, including conservation.
Craig presented a paper on the distribution and diversity of the threatened bird fauna within a sub-montane cloud forest reserve, Negros Occidental, Philippines. This broadly explained why documenting and understanding how bird species are distributed in relation to forest habitat type is important for effective conservation planning, and how volunteers can be used to collect this vital information. The results presented were derived from the bird survey work completed by volunteers at the Negros Rainforest Conservation Project (NRCP) during 2002, and will feature in the forthcoming NRCP annual report.
