Diving to coral reefs and studying fish and whales is the appealing task that awaits volunteers in the Philippines.
Coral Cay Conservation trains volunteers for three weeks before a week of underwater duties, diving twice daily to monitor corals, reef fish and larger species such as the pilot whale and the whale shark in the Sogod Bay region, three hours’ flight south of Manila. The ecology of the coral reefs there is under threat from over-fishing and dynamiting.
Prices start from £1,300 for the four weeks, including all food, accommodation and equipment but not flights. For more information visit www.coralcay.org.
