Tobago Coastal Ecosystems Mapping Project
Added to website: 21 April 2006
Between 24-29 March, Peter Raines (Founder & CEO) undertook a project development mission to Trinidad & Tobago, at the invitation of the Buccoo Reef Trust (BRT) and the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), courtesy of British Airways. The aim of the mission was to discuss a project proposal for a collaborative project between CCC, BRT, THA and the UNDP-GEF Small Grants programme, which aims to: survey and map the coastal ecosystems of Tobago to provide data for sustainable use of Tobago’s coastal marine and wetland resources; to provide conservation education and training programmes for local communities and stakeholders; and develop community capacity to sustainably manage and utilise coastal marine and wetland resources.
During the mission, meetings, presentations and discussions were held with: BRT staff; senior government officials of the THA; UNDP-GEF National Coordinator; British High Commission; and local fisherfolk, commercial stakeholders and community representatives. The outcome of these meetings is a general agreement that the proposed project should be implemented, commencing October 2006 for an initial period of two year- full details of which will be added to the website shortly.
