DescriptionThe CIEE Research Station Bonaire is accepting applications for 2 volunteer research intern positions. There are 4 research projects currently underway at the station: a long-term coral reef monitoring program where nutrient levels, sedimentation rates and enterococci bacteria are monitored at 10 sites year around; a study on a calcareous alga that is overgrowing live coral in Lac bay; a study of the effects of excluding donkeys and goats from the mangroves; and a study on the ecology of invasive lionfish. The volunteer interns will be involved in the long-term research program and will be assigned to the other research areas based on the needs of the PIs. Duties include field sampling, sample processing, data entry and analysis, report writing, record keeping for the dive safety program, and assisting with general day to day operations at the station. Diving is required for both positions. Interns must have the ability to work as a team member and be willing to work flexible hours while living on-site at the research station. The expected weekly time commitment is 40 hours. Minimum Qualifications Have completed at least 3 years of undergraduate study in Biology/Zoology/Oceanography or related field of science (BS preferred); current certifications in First Aid, CPR, DAN Oxygen Rescue, and SCUBA. A comprehensive dive physical and driver?s license is required. Compensation Lodging will be provided to the successful applicants.
