The CCC Scholarship Award Scheme
The 'CCC Scholarship Awards' are available to any suitable Filipino, Tobagan, Papuan citizen wishing to make an active contribution towards the protection and sustainable use of their coral reefs. CCC can offer up to four places for this scheme monthly. Under the Scholarship Awards Programme, three types of awards are available:
Marine Project Scholarships
1. 'CCC Snorkelling Reef Awareness Awards'
This short scholarship course takes place over a 3-day period. Training in snorkel technique is provided and a short course in general reef biology, awareness and appreciation is given. Participants are requested to reside at the project base for the duration of the course.
2. 'CCC SCUBA Reef Awareness Awards'
This short scholarship course provides training in both scuba diving (to PADI Open Water certification) and in general reef biology, awareness and appreciation. The schedule is run over six days and can be completed in one session (the preferred option) or over a number of days.
3. 'CCC SCUBA Reef Conservation Awards'
This four-week intensive residential scholarship course is aimed primarily at local citizens wishing not only to obtained SCUBA training certification (to PADI Advanced Open Water certification) but also certification under the CCC Skills Development Training Programme. University undergraduates are particularly welcome to apply.
Scholars wishing to undertake either of the SCUBA Awards have the option to arrive on site up to two days before their designated start date to read through the dive training literature. Candidates wishing to do so should inform the relevant Project Scientist at least four weeks prior to the start date of their chosen scheme.

Terrestrial Project Scholarships
Currently opportunities exist for scholars to take part in our expeditions for a minimum of a month. During this period they will be trained in and conduct biological survey techniques and will take part in community work.

Award Coverage
Each Award includes the following:
- Full board and lodging at the project base
- Full training (including SCUBA training, if necessary) and use of project equipment (see below for full list of equipment).
- CCC asks however that Scholars with their own SCUBA equipment bring them along with them

- Must be a national of the host country (18+ years of age) with a proven interest in the discipline.
- Must have good oral/reading ability in English.
- Must be medically fit to undertake project activities.
- Must be able to swim a minimum of 50 metres.
- Applicants for the 'CCC SCUBA Reef Awareness Awards' must be able to spend a minimum of six days with the project.
- Applicants for the 'CCC SCUBA Reef Conservation Awards' must be able to spend a minimum of four weeks with the project (five if wishing to undertake SCUBA training). Scholars have the option to complete the Award Programme in a one 4- week block.
- Applicants for the 'CCC Snorkelling Reef Awareness Awards' must be able to spend a minimum of three days with the project, preferably as one three day block.
- Applicants for the Terrestrial programme must be able to spend four complete weeks with the project due to its remote nature.
- A covering letter and Application Form (in English)
- Names, addresses and telephone numbers of two referees, one of who must be an academic tutor/supervisor.
- Photocopy of proof of project country citizenship.
- Family GPs, or registered GPs who have access to medical history records
- CCC Medical Officers (MO). A visit to the CCC expedition base will be required. Applicants should contact the relevant Project Scientist to arrange a CCC MO consultation.
- Your doctor/CCC MO must sign both of these forms. This information will be kept in strictest confidence.
- Medical forms are forwarded for confidential independent review by CCC's expert medical advisors at the Diving Diseases Research Centre (DDRC) in the UK. Based upon their advice, CCC reserves the right to either refer a scholar to a specialist for further medical examination and/or reject and/or cancel any scholars expedition application and/or offer of a placement with CCC.
- Provide accurate, comprehensive and truthful information on all medical forms provided by CCC. CCC will not accept any liability whatsoever in the event that a scholar has not fully disclosed all relevant details on the medical forms provided by CCC (note: failure to disclose this information may void a scholars medical health insurance);
- Submit their completed CCC Medical Form and PADI Medical Statement to us as soon as possible after receiving confirmation from CCC that they have been allocated a place.

Whilst CCC will provide most of the essential equipment necessary for use on an expedition, Scholars are required to provide certain items of equipment for their personal use

Selection Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to participate in the CCC Scholarship Award Scheme:
Please note: Scholars are expected to remain on the project site for the entire duration of their Scholarship Scheme. The opportunity to return home on weekends is at the discretion of the Project Scientist. Scholars wishing to leave the project site should make their request on immediate arrival at the site. On the Papua New Guinea project the option to return home at weekends is not possible.
Applications and Enquires
As soon as possible but no later than three months prior to the published start date of your scholarship program please send the following completed documents to the relevant CCC Project Scientist:

All scholars are required to complete and return the CCC Medical Form and PADI Medical Statement to their relevant Project Scientist at least six weeks prior to the start date.

It is therefore essential that all scholars:
Project Scientists will fax medical forms to the DDRC, on behalf of scholars, at least three months prior to the start of the scheme. It is the responsibility of local scholars to ensure Project Scientists receive the completed medical forms within this time frame. DDRC UK will fax the completed medical forms to the CCC Medical Officer onsite.
Please note: Scholars that fail their medical review will not be permitted to join the 'CCC SCUBA Reef Awareness Award or the CCC SCUBA Reef Conservation Award' Schemes. Scholars may choose to join the 'CCC Snorkelling Reef Awareness Awards' instead.
3. Insurance Forms
For safety and well-being, it is essential that CCC scholars obtain full travel and medical insurance cover for at least the full duration of their allocated placement with CCC.
Diving
It is the responsibility of the scholar to ensure that they are adequately insured for multilevel-diving (up to 13 dives per week), SCUBA diving to a maximum depth of 30 metres, personal liability and the levels of manual work routinely undertaken by CCC Scholars during the course of their scheme. CCC recommends that scholars arrange their personal travel and medical insurance through the Divers Alert Network (DAN) or local equivalents.
