The Know Before You Go Campaign
What is the campaign about?
Launched in 2001, 'Know Before You Go' is an ongoing consular awareness campaign run by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO). It encourages British nationals to be better prepared for their overseas trips with a view to avoiding common travelling traumas, risks and dangers. This campaign complements the FCO's highly regarded Travel Advice service.
In particular, it encourages people to take out adequate insurance prior to overseas travel as well as providing practical advice which ranges from familiarising themselves with the customs and culture of destinations, through to accessing advice on health and passport issues.
The campaign is supported by a series of mini campaigns which target specific categories of travellers who have been identified as potentially less likely to take adequate precautions and insurance prior to travel. Examples are younger travellers and adrenalin enthusiasts.
The main vehicle for the campaign is the website: www.fco.gov.uk/knowbeforeyougo.
