Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation

Since 1994, Coral Cay has been working in partnership with The Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation (PRRCFI) to implement effective marine and terrestrial conservation projects. PRRCFI’s primary objectives are to develop and implement education and alternative livelihood programmes for the conservation of marine and other wildlife resources, and the restoration of natural resources. The partnership between Coral Cay and PRRCFI has gone from strength to strength, with proven successes including the designation of Danjugan Island as a fully protected forest and marine park.

Provincial Government of Southern Leyte

Coral Cay is operating in Southern Leyte on the invitation of the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte (PGSL) and their respective departments under a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement between CCC, the PGSL and PRRCFI. Together, we are able to provide technical expertise and training opportunities in marine conservation science to all levels of governance, from the provincial departments down to the Municipalities. Coral Cay works closely with the fisheries, environmental resource and tourism offices to support and provide training and livelihood development activities to local communities. The PGSL is supporting Coral Cay through the provision of a research project site.

British Embassy, Manila
Coral Cay Conservation closely with the British Embassy in Manila, Philippines, to help encourage cultural exchange between the Philippines and the United Kingdom and support the promotion of the Philippines in Britian.
 The British Embassy has also provided financial support to Coral Cay's community programmes, particularly towards the provision of training and scholarship opportunities through Coral Cay's scholarship programmes.

Ocean Action Research Centre

The Ocean Action Resource Centre (ORC) is a not-for-proift organisation, set up by Grace Quiton, a previous Coral Cay scholar, to provide, facilitate, and support marine-oriented environmental education for young Filipinos and to raise environmental awareness in coastal communities of the Philippines. Coral Cay and the ORC work closely together to provide a wide variety of educational programmes within Southern Leyte.

Silliman University

Silliman University is one of the Philippines' most prestigeous universities, particularly when it comes to research into grass-roots conservation strategies.
Coral Cay and Silliman continue to work together to provide training opportunities to students wishing to undertake degrees in marine ecology and conservation science.

Southern Leyte State University

The Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) and Coral Cay Conservation work together under a Memorandum of Understanding whereby scholarship training opportunities are provided to SLSU students. Coral Cay also provides a series of lectures to biology students at their faculty. In return, SLSU students provide Coral Cay volunteers with a fun-filled lesson in Filippino dance and culture!

Fisheries Administration



The Fisheries Administration (FiA) of Cambodia invited Coral Cay Conservation to provide technical assistance and manpower in order to assist with the implementation of Cambodia's first effectively managed Marine Protected Area. CCC works under the FiA under a Memorandum of Agreement and will continue to work closely with them in order to provide marine resource monitoring and adaptive management to ensure the reefs are protected.

Royal University of Phnom Pehn, Cambodia

 
The Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) is Cambodia’s oldest and largest university. It hosts more than 12000 scholarship and full-fee paying students, across a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It is unique in Cambodia for offering specialist degrees in fields including the sciences, humanities and social sciences. RUPP and Coral Cay regularly work together through the provision of scholarship training opportunities in coral reef ecology and marine biology subjects.

The Blue Moon Fund

The Blue Moon Fund works to build human and natural resilience to a changing and warming world.  They use natural, social, and financial capital to implement new models in high-biodiversity regions around the world. In Cambodia, the Blue Moon Fund is supporting the implementation of Cambodia's first Marine Protected Area around Koh Rong Island through a 2-year grant to Coral Cay.

Conus Dive Training & Business Consultants

Conus Dive Training and Consultancy Services was set up in 2006 by husband and wife team Pete and Ruth Faulkner. Pete has participated in a number of CCC expeditions all over the worldand is currently the non-executive chairman of Coral Cay.
 
Conus provides a range of dive training and business consultancy services utilising experience in diver training, financial management, corporate consultancy and reef conservation.
Chagos Conservation Trust 
The Chagos Conservation Trust, incorporating the Friends of the Chagos, is a charitable association, established in 1992, whose aims are to promote conservation, scientific and historical research, and to advance education concerning the archipelago.  The Chagos Archipelago is a group of coral atolls in the centre of the Indian Ocean, covering an area of 150X100 miles (250X150 Km). As a member of the trust, Coral Cay has aided in the campaign to designate the Archipelago as a Marine Protected Area (MPA). Furthermore we run a scholarship programme aimed at training Chagosians in marine conservation management.
Darwin Initiative 
The Darwin Initiative was announced by the UK Government at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
The aim of the Initiative is to assist those countries which are rich in biodiversity but poor in financial resources to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) through the funding of collaborative projects which draw on UK biodiversity expertise.
 
The Initiative has provided grant funding for a number of CCC projects including the monitoring of coral health in Honduras in 2002 and support for the Waria Valley Community Conservation and Sustainable Livelihood programme in Papua New Guinea form 2005-2009.

Diving Disease Research Centre 

The Diving Diseases Research Centre (DDRC), is a charity which aims to promote and take part in the medical treatment, training and research associated with the use of hyperbaric oxygen in the treatment of diving diseases and other medical problems.
 
The DDRC act as an external medical advisor to Coral Cay providing information and medical support for our dive operations in the field.

Foreign & Commonwealth Office

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office – ‘the FCO’ or ‘the Foreign Office’ for short – is the government department responsible for promoting British interests overseas and supporting our citizens and businesses around the globe. They are Britain’s diplomatic service and represent the UK government overseas.
 
With a worldwide network of embassies and consulates the FCO is a unique national asset. The FCO provide a range of travel advice and support services for CCC volunteers and staff prior to and during expeditions overseas. With experts and advisors located around the world in over 170 countries they are perfectly placed to support the welfare and safety of individuals involved with CCC.

 

Fauna & Flora International 

Fauna & Flora International's work spans across the globe, with over 100 projects in nearly 40 countries, mostly in the developing world. As an organisation they stand up for biodiversity and aim to show just how relevant it is to all of those who share the planet.
 
Through their vision of a sustainable future for the planet, where biodiversity is effectively conserved by the people who live closest to it, they act to conserve threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take into account human needs. In Cambodia, FFI are working closly with Coral Cay as project partners, helping to implement Marine Protected Areas in the Gulf of Thailand.

Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network

The Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN) works hard to improve management and conservation of coral reefs by providing manuals, equipment, databases, training, problem solving, and helps with finding funds for reef monitoring - all coordinated in a global network.

Global reef monitoring was a major theme when the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) was launched at the United Nations Global Conference on Sustainable Development of Small Islands Developing States in Barbados in 1994. In 1995, ICRI called on many nations to commit themselves towards increasing research and monitoring of reefs to provide the data for effective management (The Call to Action and Framework for Action).
 
Coral Cay has been supporting GCRMN's mission through the provision of our data for regional coral reef status reports.
International Coral Reef Initiative
The International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) is a partnership among governments, international organizations, and non-government organizations. It strives to preserve coral reefs and related ecosystems.
 
The ICRI was announced at the First Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity in December 1994, and at the high level segment of the Intersessional Meeting of the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development in April 1995. ICRI was originally initiated by the governments of Australia, France, Japan, Jamaica, the Philippines, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Additional partners from governments, United Nations organizations, multilateral development banks, environmental and developmental NGOs, and the private sector have subsequently joined the original founders and are currently collaborating in the International Coral Reef Initiative. Coral Cay has been a member for over 20 years supporting campaigns such as the ICRI International Year of the Reef, 2008.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

NOAA is an agency that enriches life through science. Their reach goes from the surface of the sun to the depths of the ocean floor as they work to keep citizens informed of the changing environment around them. From daily weather forecasts, severe storm warnings and climate monitoring to fisheries management, coastal restoration and supporting marine commerce, NOAA’s products and services support economic vitality and affect more than one-third of America’s gross domestic product.

 

NOAA’s dedicated scientists use cutting-edge research and high-tech instrumentation to provide citizens, planners, emergency managers and other decision makers with reliable information they need when they need it. 


NOAA’s mission touches the lives of every American and we are proud of our role in protecting life and property and conserving and protecting natural resources. In the Caribbean, NOAA have supported Coral Cay projects aimed at coral conservation and the implementaion of protected areas.

OCEAN2012
OCEAN2012 is a coalition dedicated to ensuring that the 2012 reform of the European Common Fisheries Policy stops overfishing, ends destructive fishing practices and delivers fair and equitable use of healthy fish stocks.  
 
OCEAN2012's members employ scientific evidence and extensive experience to engage decision-makers and stakeholders at all levels. They are campaigning to ensure a change in fishing policy in Europe, to reduce the number of fish stocks being overexploited to a dangerous level.
 
Coral Cay are a member of OCEAN2012, supporting the ongoing campaign and promoting the work of the coalition to both the general public and other conservation organisations.  

PADI

PADI is the world’s leading scuba diving training organization.
With more than forty years experience, over 135,000 PADI Professionals and more than 6,000 dive shops and resorts worldwide, PADI training materials and services let you experience scuba diving from nearly anywhere.
 
Coral Cay have been a registered dive centre since 1994 offering open water, advanced open water, rescue diver and divemaster training courses to thousands of volunteers.
 

Project Aware

Project AWARE Foundation conserves underwater environments through education, advocacy and action.

 
Project AWARE Foundation is the dive industry’s leading nonprofit environmental organisation. They work in partnership with divers and water enthusiasts to combat challenges facing underwater environments. Through hands-on environmental activities they engage volunteers in campaigns such as the International Cleanup Day designed to spred the message of marine conservation and environmental awareness. The Foundation's Grant Programme has provided CCC with funding and support for its school education programmes designed to teach and inspire children to take an active interest and role in the conservation of tropical reefs.

Rare Pride 

Rare specializes in social marketing  – a method for changing attitudes and behaviors that has been successfully applied by other organizations to such issues as seatbelt use, smoking, pollution, teen drug abuse, and reproductive health.
Rare is the leader in social marketing for biodiversity conservation — with a successful track record in more than 50 countries to date. They train and support leaders from the world’s top environmental organizations, local grassroots groups, and governments – all of which are increasingly aware that failure to create support at the community level reduces the chance of conservation success.
In the Philippines, Coral Cay has been working with RARE Pride to encourage community involvement and increase awareness of marine resourse management techniques such as Marine Protected Areas (MPA).
Reef Check
Founded in 1996 by marine ecologist Dr. Gregor Hodgson, the Reef Check Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to conservation of two ecosystems: tropical coral reefs and California rocky reefs. With headquarters in Los Angeles and volunteer teams in more than 80 countries, Reef Check works to create partnerships among community volunteers, government agencies, businesses, universities and other non-profits. Reef Check goals are to: educate the public about the value of reef ecosystems and the current crisis affecting marine life; to create a global network of volunteer teams trained in Reef Check's scientific methods who regularly monitor and report on reef health; to facilitate collaboration that produces ecologically sound and economically sustainable solutions; and to stimulate local community action to protect remaining pristine reefs and rehabilitate damaged reefs worldwide.
 
Coral Cay are a centre for training volunteers in the Reef Check methodology and have received support from Reef Check on a number of projects including conducting baseline surveys in Tobago.

United Nations Development Programme

UNDP is the United Nations' global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. On the ground in 176 countries, they work with countries to produce their own solutions to global and national development challenges.


World leaders have pledged to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. UNDP's network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach these Goals. UNDP's focus is helping countries build and share solutions to the challenges of democratic governance, poverty reduction, crisis prevention & recovery and HIV/AIDS.

UNDP helps developing countries attract and use aid effectively. In all our activities, they encourage the protection of human rights, capacity development and the empowerment of women.  As Project parners, Coral Cay support the goals of the UNDP and help promote the organisation to a wider audience. 

Waterloo Foundation

The Waterloo Foundation is an independent grant-making Foundation created in 2007, and based in Cardiff, Wales.  They give grants to organisations in both the UK and world-wide.  The Foundation is supporting CCC's ongoing Scholarship Programme in the Philippines
