Why Volunteer with Coral Cay Conservation

With the number of companies offering conservation expeditions it is important to know that you are going to the one that is right for you.  Joining one of these trips can be a life changing experience and so it is essential that you do your research and know who you are going with.

Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) is a not-for-profit organisation that has been operating since 1986 and so has a wealth of experience in offering conservation expeditions around the world.  Only operating a small number of projects at any one time allows our dedicated staff team to focus on each one individually, ensuring their success and safe running.

As a volunteer you will get to experience new cultures, see some truly amazing places, work alongside passionate people and make lifelong friends, whilst helping to protect some of the most endangered ecosystems on the planet.

This is your chance to get involved with projects that are having a long term impact on the preservation of our environment. Our approach to conservation is multifaceted, incorporating scientific research, awareness raising and local capacity building.  We work with everyone from local governments and officials to the individual communities that rely so heavily on the environment.

We believe that the long term success of our conservation work depends on the local community and so we offer scholarship programmes which give nationals of our host countries the tools they need to be at the forefront of environmental management.  The money you pay as a volunteer helps to fund this, making our scholarships completely free and therefore open to anyone.

Although the work on all of our projects is worthwhile, not everyone wants the same in terms of their own personal experience. This is why we offer a range of ways in which you can get involved, in order to get the most out of your expedition, from individual short term trips to long term internships and everything in between

Coral Cay has made me want to fight harder for our reefs and to push for the establishment of more MPAs all over the country.  Armed with what I have seen and what I have learned in Coral Cay, it is no longer a pipe dream but a very tangible possibility…”

Leo Qualib, CCC Scholar

I left CCC feeling confident and eager to establish baseline data for the MPA in my hometown. CCC definitely went beyond my expectations….”

Safety

Your safety is our number one concern. Conforming to both BS8848, the British Standard for overseas expeditions, and being a founding member of the Year Out Group, we operate within a strict set of safety guidelines making our trips as risk free as possible.

We have a 24 hour operations room on call to help in any situation with trained, experienced staff on hand to offer advice and guidance.  Our Field Base Managers are carefully selected based on their previous experience and go through in depth training in the UK before heading overseas.

We go the extra mile to ensure your safety

My time with CCC project in the Philippines was extremely rewarding as I got to see how all the hard work from the volunteers and staff resulted in making a real difference in the marine conservation efforts in Sogod Bay.
